Searching for a place
Place searches on the Pedestrian map, in Check a route, and on the community report form send your search text to Pauserby’s server in the request body, not in the page address. The server passes it to OneMap to find matching places and does not store it. Server request logs record which feature was used and whether it worked, never the search text or the place you choose.
What map links contain
As you move the Pedestrian map, the page address updates so you can reload or share the view. It holds the map centre and any searched area rounded to roughly 100 metres, the zoom level, the enabled layers and list filter, and the selected report. It never holds your search text or the exact place you chose. Map links stay in your browser history and go wherever you share them. Map images load directly from OneMap, which receives the area your browser displays.
Checking a route
Selected places and their coordinates, including any places you choose to travel via, are sent to Pauserby’s server and to OneMap, the routing provider, to generate a walking route. External source links take you to third-party websites with their own privacy practices.
Pauserby does not save route searches to an account or public history. The current review, walkthrough confirmation, checks, custom stops, and private global and per-stop notes stay in this browser tab so you can return after reloading or reading a supporting page. Recovery happens at Check a route; visiting the homepage map does not reopen your review. Server operational logs exclude route request bodies and search terms.
Walkthrough confirmation, checks, custom stops, and global and per-stop notes are never sent to Pauserby’s server or analytics. Changing or clearing the route removes them. Clear checklist removes them while keeping the route review. If browser storage is unavailable, the checklist tells you that your work will remain only on the open page.
Measurement without private place details
Pauserby uses PostHog to measure page visits and coarse map actions: selecting a place, searching an area, opening a report or source, and toggling a layer. Only a layer toggle includes the layer name and whether it is enabled. These actions do not count as completed route reviews. Route-review actions include counts, distance bands, opening a walk plan, and adding an inspection spot. If you answer the optional usefulness question, analytics receive only your Yes, Partly, or No choice. The choice stays with the recovered review in this tab to avoid counting it again after a reload.
PostHog stores a randomly generated identifier in your browser’s local storage to recognise repeat visits, and receives basic browser and device information. Like any web service, it receives your IP address with each request; every event asks PostHog not to look up a location from it.
Pauserby also counts page visits with Umami, served from u.pauserby.com. Umami receives the page address without its query string or fragment, the page title, the referring site, and your screen size, language, browser, and device type. It can derive an approximate country or city from your IP address. It does not store an identifier in your browser.
Analytics never receive raw address text, place names you search for or choose, postal codes, coordinates, route geometry, map bounds, search terms, or private notes. Page addresses are reduced to the type of page, such as a report page, before PostHog events are sent. Automatic click and form capture and session replay are disabled. Route-review event and map event properties must match Pauserby’s small allowlists.
Feedback and bug reports
When you send a report, Pauserby stores the report type, your message, and an email address if you choose to provide one. It also records whether you opened the form from Check a route. Your route, place searches, and browser address are not attached. The email is used only to reply about your report.
Accounts and community reports
If you create an account, Pauserby stores your name, email address, a password hash, and session records, including the IP address and browser user agent of each signed-in session. Verification and password reset links are sent through our configured mail service. Signing in is required to submit a community report or report a data inaccuracy.
When connected, the hosted Better Auth Dashboard lets authorised administrators view and manage accounts and sessions. Better Auth receives authentication event records, including account identifiers, names, email addresses, and session metadata. This connection does not include your route searches, private route notes, or report content.
A community report stores its type, date, description, and a selected nearby place. Places chosen in the report form are now rounded to roughly 100 metres, and a numbered block is recorded by its road name; earlier reports keep the place as it was chosen. Moderators check every report’s place before it is published. The selected place is an approximate reference. Your account is attached privately for review. Reports remain private while pending or rejected. If a report is approved, its type, date, description, and approximate place are published, but your name and email are not. Your account page shows the status of your reports and any note a moderator writes to you.
Data inaccuracies and review
When you report an inaccuracy, Pauserby stores the affected record, its label and link at the time of submission, the issue category, your explanation, and any supporting source link. Your account is attached privately. These reports, and any review note written for you, are only available to you and authorised moderators; they are not published as community reports.
Moderators can review community reports, data inaccuracies, and feedback in a private admin dashboard. Pauserby records review decisions, the reviewer, and the review time. Please avoid including personal details in report text or source links.
How long information is kept
The route recovery copy in your browser tab expires after 24 hours without a review update, or when you clear the route or close the tab. The PostHog identifier stays in your browser until you clear this site’s data.
Pauserby has not yet set fixed retention periods for accounts, community reports, data inaccuracy reports, or feedback. Retained submissions and feedback email addresses are reviewed periodically and removed through a private maintenance process when they are no longer needed. A retracted community report leaves public view, but its review record is kept. Deleted data may persist in database backups for a limited time.
Your account information
To ask for a copy of your account information, a correction, or deletion of your account, send a request through the feedback form. Include the email address on your account so Pauserby can reply. Requests are handled manually; there is no self-serve account deletion.
You can clear a generated route at any time. Pauserby does not currently provide route sharing, saved routes, or route alerts.
